Wheelbarrow Way Charity Ride
Saturday 14 May
Enjoy a ride along the world famous Wheelbarrow Way whilst helping raise much needed funds for the Mareeba Friends of the Hospital Foundation.
A return bus to Mareeba has limited spaces so book early.
Start the ride in Mareeba. Ride through classic Savannah landscape, following in the historical footsteps of our mining forebears. Ride at your own pace, with a friend or by yourself. This is a ride, not a race so take the time to enjoy the scenery.
Pass through the small towns of Mutchilba, Dimbulah and Petford before finishing in Almaden. The route has intermittent small hills with Gorge Creek and the Lappa Range being the only real leg and lung testers. You will cross many of the creeks that the early explorers relied on to navigate their way through this land: the Walsh, Eureka and Emu Creek to name a few.
Start times are staggered and designed to have most riders arriving in Almaden between 5 and 6pm. Start times are:
Start times are approximate and may change slightly to ensure the safe running of the event.
Finish the ride in Almaden and join the raucous runners from the Great Wheelbarrow Race in a quest to find the best talent in Far North Queensland. Riders are encouraged to enter an item such as a song, dance, skit, short play etc.
Riders are encouraged to stay in Chillagoe the night due to the limited accommodation available in Almaden. For details on accommodation options please visit our website.
Note: all funds raised go to the Mareeba Friends of the Hospital Foundation
